Cubes Kill Turrets

Introduction

My objective with this level was to create a series of puzzles based on one theme: Use the cubes and the portals to destroy turrets and finish the level.

Creative process

The first step was to find the theme. To do that, I decided to create some prototypes and keep the most promising.

The second step was to create the documentation and write all the steps to resolve the puzzles.

And finally, I created a first iteration of the level, asked people to playtest it, and iterated on it.

Room 01

The role of the first room is to introduce to the player that he can destroy the turrets by using the cube.

To do that, two turrets are guarding the door, and the player needs to use the cube as a shield to destroy the second one.

Room 02

In the second room, I introduced gravity to add a bit of difficulty and push the player to master the theme.

Room 03

The player mastered the theme, and to create a last test, I added more steps and created a twist with the use of the cube from the second room to add a bit of difficulty and keep the player engaged.
